I notice there is a new look to the wikia. I am sure it is very pretty but I am quite used to the old look I had. Is there some setting I can use to remove the links on the right and get back to the way it looked before? Thanks
- Sure- When you log in, you should see the wikipedia style skin (this is called monobook). If it is not set to monobook, then you can change it by going to Preferences, click the Skins tab, then click monobook. The you are back to normal, and you shouldn't see the new look again.
- Actually, there are several of these skins, and if you don't care for the parchment look but do like the Quartz look, you might choose the quartz theme "Smoke", or "Beach". The default skin with the Montage at the top is called "Slate". You can set them in your preferences.
- The only thing that changed recently is what the default skin is. We have to start new users on a Quartz based skin because all the new wikia stuff only works on Quartz. (chat, slideshow, etc.)
- To be honest, I still haven't gotten used to the Quartz style skin, and it is a little frustrating looking for common stuff like "what links here", but the links are all there- just in different places. Anyway, Wikia is moving over to them big time, so we might as well not swim against the tide. I put some work into a skin customized for Genealogy using the parchment colour palette we discussed in Forum:Improving the "people-page start page" a month ago. ~ Phlox 00:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ah ok. Guess I should just try to get used to it as well. Has a much slower load time, and seems to refresh without warning occasionally, making my cursor disappear when trying to edit. Will 02:50, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Turn off slideshow especially. After I did that I stopped noticing glitches. Also, I moved Toolbox widget up to the top so that all the what links here, upload file, special pages are directly under the adverts space. I find I am much less p.o.'d at the UI after doing that. Anyway, you can do this by drag drop. Pretty cool. Just click the top of any of those widgets- toolbox, Navigation, Top Content, and move them in any order you like. You do it just like you would any window, and then drop it where you want. ~ Phlox 04:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Is George dead?[]
Just FYI- On the new Familypedia default skin [1], there are no hidden messages in the new banner. For design reasons, palette had to be pastel and low contrast. Here is one with higher contrast:
Included (left to right):
- Muhammad Iqbal (1877)
- Hwang Hyun ("Maecheon") of Korea
- William Hooper Councill
- Elizabeth Cady Stanton
- George H. O'Brien, Congressional Medal of Honor
- Sketch of Kyrghyz girl by Russian artist Vasili Vasilyevich Vereshchagin
- Wagon train depicted by Danish immigrant artist Carl Christian Anton Christensen
- Buffalo Bill
- Crowd scene in background is V-J day, Times Square 1945.
{As it appears on the page, the banner actually begins with the wagon train, then wraps around.)

- What goes around comes around. The October 2010 New Look provides an opportunity to use the above image. Thank you again, Phlox! — Robin Patterson (Talk) 04:41, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
