You were mentioning now I might find out what properties are used on this site.

You mentioned: I don't remember all the names of the properties but think you find them on the "model" form on the "work-around" page. I didn't see how to find the model form or the work-around page.

I was curious because often in reading about the semantic web instead of using something like brother or father, one might use the verb hasBrother or hasFather.

I'm interested in getting a feel for this. It seems like it would be important in some cases to have properties that match what is being used on other sites. The idea of linking data across the web relies on this.

I had the idea of a resume type data content type and was thinking, "should I use 'has skill' or 'skills' or just 'skill' for the name of the property?"

Assuming that people want to be discovered for their skills, it might be good to know what vocabulary terms some semantic searches might recognize.

Let me know if you have any thoughts or insights on this.

Thanks,

Our list of properties[]

Bruce, I had thought you would be by now at least slightly familiar with the page you reach by clicking the top-of-page menu "Help: Creating articles". Maybe I overestimated your enthusiasm for finding all possible help. On that page is a link to the "work-around" (which is the term we used on the "sitenotice" when we had one of those) for people who do not use Firefox: Forum:Data_entry_without_using_Form:Person. Of course, the way to get a list of all properties used on the site is to go to "All pages" and select the Property namespace; I assume that you know that, but I add it here for the convenience of readers who may not. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:01, December 27, 2010 (UTC)

Matching property names on other wikis[]

I agree that there could be value in having the same property names for what are essentially the same sorts of facts. I don't remember seeing serious discussion of it anywhere in my reading of SMW material. But I expect "linking data across the web" could bypass differences with some sort of lookup table that said what a property name on one site should convert to for extracting material from another site. The main SMW site does say something about extracting SMW data from other sites. — Robin Patterson (Talk) 02:01, December 27, 2010 (UTC)
