How do you watch the forum in general? On other forums on the Wikia, I have found that I click "watch" but I will only end up watching the particular forum entry I added/commented on. Thanks. Zephyrinus 10:17, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

The best way to watch the forum is by visiting the list at Forum:Index, and the sub-lists at Forum:Help desk and Forum:Watercooler. Any new message will show as bold text, and with a new messages icon: Forum new. This relies on your browser history, so viewing a new message will clear the formatting, and clearing your browser history will reset all recent threads as unread. If a page is edited, it shows as new again. Hope that helps -- Sannse 20:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Actually, not really, but if this is the best we can do, then so be it. A "watched" page emails me whenever that page has been changed. During my recent illness, I could (from time to time) look at email. I could not see any new messages on the forum - they didn't get emailed to me. At that time, it was actually, too difficult to surf the web. But, thanks for stopping by, Sannse! Zephyrinus 11:02, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
You can put http://genealogy.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:Recentchangeslinked&target=Category:Help_desk&hideminor=0&days=7&limit=300 on your user page and click it every few days to see the last 7 days of Help desk changes. Similar URL will give you the Watercooler changes. Robin Patterson 12:11, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Progress in 2010[]

A recent enhancement to the watchlist notification system means you can follow any forum by adding its category to your watchlist. You should then get an email whenever anyone adds a page (a new "forum") to it. See Category:Help desk and Category:Watercooler.
