Gabriel Ludlow III was born 2 November 1663 in Castle Cary, Somerset, England, United Kingdom to Gabriel Ludlow (1634-1675) and Martha Cary (1641-) and died circa 1736 New York, United States of unspecified causes. He married Sara Hanmer (1675-) 5 April 1675 .
He was born at Castle Cary and left Frome around 1694 to settle in New Amsterdam, and became a prominent and influential merchant, shipowner, landholder and longtime clerk of the New York General Assembly.[1][2] He obtained a patent from King George II for a tract of 4,000 acres of land in what became Orange County, New York on the west bank of the Hudson River.
