A History of the Dethick Family of Dethick 1200-1918 by Janet Kinrade Dethick

"During the 13th Century a manor house was built at Dethick, a hamlet near Matlock, Derbyshire by Sir Geoffrey de Dethick who had been granted this land by Henry III sometime between 1216 and 1272. In 1279 the Rector of Ashover recorded the grant of chantry in the chapel of Dethick to Sir Geoffrey who in the same year assigned lands to Thomas Wathenowe, Prior of Felley, Nottinghamshire, on condition that the priory maintained a chaplain to celebrate daily in this chapel for himself and all his ancestors and progenitors. One source mentions that he and a brother had married two heiresses of Annesley and so from this we gather that the family was interested in acquiring new land holdings and expanding its power."
