George Davis Grant was born 10 September 1812 in Windsor, Broome County, New York, United States to Joshua Grant (1778-1865) and Athalia Nan Howard (1786-1853) and died 20 September 1876 Bountiful, Davis County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Wilson (1816-1880) 22 January 1834 in Naples, Ontario County, New York.

Moved to Naples, Ontario Co., New York, by 1830.6 Married Elizabeth Wilson, 22 Jan. 1834, in Naples.7 Baptized into LDS church by Don Carlos Smith (1816-1841), June 1836, in Ontario Co.8

Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by Mar. 1837; to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, Sept. 1837; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, Jan. 1839; to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Mar. 1840; to Plymouth, Hancock Co., Nov. 1840; and to near Carthage, Hancock Co., Sept. 1843.9 Ordained an elder, 8 Apr. 1840.10

Carried news of deaths of JS and Hyrum Smith to Nauvoo with David Bettisworth.11 Ordained a seventy, 8 Oct 1844.12 Appointed president of Sixteenth Quorum of the Seventy, 19 Jan. 1845.13 Admitted to Council of Fifty, 8 Sept. 1845.14 Left Nauvoo to go west, 11 Feb. 1846.15 Arrived in Salt Lake Valley, 22 Sept. 1848.16 Served as general in Utah Indian wars.17 Moved to Bountiful, Davis Co., Utah Territory, by 1860.18 Died in Bountiful.19

Overland Wagon Companies

George initially traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in the Brigham Young Company in 1848.George returned from a mission in Great Britain in 1856. After his mission, he worked with other officials to coordinate the emigration companies that year. He was elected company captain of a small group of immigration officers and returning missionaries returning home at the end of the emigration season. Immediately after arriving, he turned around and went back out to participate as one of the rescuers that were sent out to assist the members of the Church stranded in Wyoming.
