George Palmer Putnam was born 7 September 1887 in Rye, Westchester County, New York, United States to John Bishop Putnam (1847-1915) and Emma Frances Faulkner (1857-1936) and died 4 January 1950 Trona, San Bernardino County, California, United States of kidney failure. He married Dorothy Binney (1888-1982) 26 October 1911 in Old Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. He married Amelia Mary Earhart (1897-1937) 7 February 1931 in Noank, New London County, Connecticut, United States. He married Jean-Marie Cosigny (1911-1997) 21 May 1939 in Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, United States. He married Margarete Louise Haviland (1908-2002) 10 June 1945 in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Known for his marriage to (and being the widower of) Amelia Earhart, he had also achieved fame as one of the most successful promoters in the United States during the 1930s.
