He married JoAnne Petty (living) 20 February 1952 in Salt Lake LDS Temple, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

BRIGHAM CITY - Gibson Raymond Smith Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2015 at the University of Utah Hospital due to complications from heart surgery with his loving family surrounding him.
He was born November 16, 1931 to Alexa and Gibson Raymond Smith in Ogden, Utah.
He graduated from Ogden High School in 1950, attended Weber College, and graduated from BYU in 1958. He served four years in the US Navy, including 18 months in Korea in Baker Regiment 3rd battalion MASH unit.
He married Jo Anne Petty, February 20, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife and seven children: Chris Gunn Beacham (Rand), Lynne Morrey (John), Teresa Ferry (John), Annette Randall (Bryant), Steven Smith (Lisa), Garth Smith (Diane), David Smith (Christine), 33 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Ray Ann Smith Furch.
Ray was employed at Thiokol for 38 years, serving in many positions including Director of Mixing and Casting propellant manufacturing for the Space Shuttle program.
Ray was an avid outdoor man, a hunter, a horseman. He enjoyed snowmobiling at his cabin at Island Park. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Jo Anne, to many wonderful places in the US and abroad.
His family was his pride and joy. He loved, and was loved by all of them.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the LDS River Ward, 531 N. 100 W., Brigham City, Utah.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, Utah and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church.
