Lord Giovanni I of Monaco was born circa 1382 in Monaco, Monaco to Rainier II of Monaco (1350-1407) and Isabella Asinari (c1350-) and died 1454 Monaco, Monaco of unspecified causes. He married Pomellina Fregoso (1387-1468) 1414 JL .
Jean I Grimaldi (Giovanni I Grimaldi) (c. 1382 – 1454) was Lord of Monaco three times; 1395, jointly with his brothers Ambroise and Antonie from 1419 to 1436, and he held the title by himself from 1436 until 1454.[1]
In 1419, after Monaco had been occupied by Genoa since 1357, Giovanni became Lord of Monaco in co-regency with his brothers, but ruled alone from 1427 onward. Monaco itself was occupied by the Duchy of Milan in 1436, but freed, upon which Jean placed his wife, Pomellina Fregoso (1387-1468), there to manage the fortress in his absence. She was the first Monegasque consort to play an important role. Jean I was often absent from Monaco, and left Pomellina as a de facto regent.
House of Grimaldi

Great coat of arms of the House of Grimaldi.
The Grimaldi Family, with few exceptions for enemy occupations, have been primary rulers of Monaco since the 13th Century. Their family ancestry can be easily traced to many of the great noble families of Europe. See Also:
