There have been four baronetcies created for persons with the surname Hall, one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and three in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. Three of the creations are extant as of 2010.


Hall baronets, of Dunglass (1687)[]

The Hall Baronetcy, of Dunglass (formerly Haddingtonshire until 1975), was created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia on 8 October 1687 for John Hall.

Dunglass Castle, East Lothian was built by the Pepdies of Dunglass in the 14th century. The original castle was destroyed in an explosion in 1640, and in 1687, John Hall (1650-1710) (1st Baronet) acquired and rebuilt this estate which would remain in the family for 232 years, when it was sold by Sir John Richard Hall, 9th Baronet in the year 1918.

  9. John Richard Hall (1865-1928) - 9th Baronet, He gained the rank of Major in the Coldstream Guards. He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Irish Guards. He wrote the book The Coldstream Guards in the Boer War.
  10. Martin Julian Hall (1874-1958) - The 10th Baronet was Director of the Food Section at the Ministry of Munitions during the First World War and subsequently Chief Reconstruction Officer for Scotland at the Ministry of Labour.
  11. Julian Henry Hall (1907-1974) - drama critic and obituarist for The Times. Veteran of World War II.
  12. Lionel Reid Hall (1898-1975) - Colonel in the British Army and served during World War I.
  13. Neville Reynolds Hall (1900-1978) - Master of Royal Naval College, Dartmouth
  14. Douglas Basil Hall (1909-2004) - The 14th Baronet was Governor of British Somaliland.

    1. The heir apparent is the present holder's son Thomas James Hall (born 1975).

Hall baronets, of Burton Park (1919)[]

The Hall Baronetcy, of Burton Park, in the parish of Burton in the County of Sussex,[3] was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 18 September 1919 for the Conservative politician Douglas Hall. He was the son of Bernard Hall, the first ever Mayor of Liverpool.

The Hall Baronetcy, of Grafham in the County of Surrey,[4] was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 5 March 1923 for the businessman and Conservative politician Frederick Hall.

  1. ^ [http://www.historicalportraits.com/Search/ItemDetails.asp?ItemID=963 Katherine Hall of Dunglass (died 1745) was painted by Allan Ramsay, was the youngest daughter of Sir James Hall, 2nd Bt. of Dunglass (died 1742) and by his second wife, Margaret Pringle. She married the Jacobite poet William Hamilton of Bangour (1704–54) in 1743 and had one son, James, who succeeded to the estate and later married Margaret, daughter of James Bruce of Kinniard. Hamilton belonged to a circle of Edinburgh intellectuals and writers that included Allan Ramsay Senior, who passionately supported the cause of the Stuarts.
