Obituary
Last week the GAZETTE briefly chronicled the demise of Mr H. Phipps, of Upper Colo, a native of North Richmond, and a man who was respected by all who knew him. Born in 1832, he had lived all his long life in this district. He married
a Miss Cornwell, and went to live at the New Yard, Bulga Road, where he remained 36 years.
Then he purchased a farm at Upper Colo, at which place he lived until his demise occurred on April 10. The funeral was the longest ever seen in Colo, the undertaker being Mr Price, of Richmond, and the officiating clergyman, Rev. M. Gray, of Kurrajong. The cause of death was paralysis. Mr Phipps brought up a family of eleven daughters, all of whom are comfortably married, and two sons—and nearly the whole of them, we are informed, were able to see their father before he died. The deceased was regarded by all who knew him as a most upright man, and a kindly and charitable neighbour.
