Dr. Henry Strong Whitney was born 1 September 1858 in Champaign, Champaign County, Illinois, United States to Henry Clay Whitney (1831-1905) and Sarah Ann Snyder (1841-) . He married Harriet Jane Hambrook (1858-1921) 13 February 1879 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, United States.

He married, 13 Feb 1879, Harriet J. Hambrook. She was born 9 Aug 1858.
He was educated at the common schools at Urbana, IL, and Kansas. Entering the Chicago Homeopathic Medical college as a medical student, he was graduated in 1894, with high honors, being valedictorian of the class. He was at once offered a position on the faculty of the same institution, which he accepted, and is now, therefore, lecturing on materia medica and the "organon," and is also chemical assistant to the chair of clinical therapeutics. He promises to be an eminent physician; resided 1164 W. Adams St., Chicago, IL.
