Hildegard Carolingian, Abbess of Notre Dame de Loan, was born 802 in Maine to Louis the Pious (778-840) and Ermengarde of Hesbaye (c778-818) . She married Rather de Limoges (?-841) .

She had no known children.

In some traditions, she remarried after her husband's death to Baldwin of Kleve and Teisterbant and produced a son Robert. This is unlikely given Hildegard's age at Gerard's death, and her own death soon after.[1]

  1. ^ Karel de Grote even claims that Robert was born well before Hildegard's first marriage, let alone the second one that would have produced this son.
