Horace Drake was born 19 April 1826 in Hartford, Trumbull County, Ohio, United States to Daniel Drake (1789-1851) and Patience Perkins (1783-1862) and died 6 January 1918 Centerville, Davis County, Utah, United States of unspecified causes. He married Diana Eliza Holbrook (1833-1906) 3 October 1850 in Salt Lake Endowment House, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.
Diana was just a baby travelling in Zion's Camp (1834) with her parents. Her mother presumably did laundry for members of the group. She married Horace Drake (1826-1918), the younger sister of Diantha Drake (1815-1889), who also marched in Zion's Camp as a 18-year-old single sister.
