‡ General
  • There is considerable doubt about who his mother was. More research is needed.

Ross, Tasmania, was not named after him!

₪ Wedding
  • At that time, Tasmania was called "Van Diemens Land", and there was no nation or colony of Australia.
¶ Death
  • The "city" was then known as "Wanganui". It was in the Wellington Province and was the 5th-largest city in New Zealand in population terms but was soon overtaken. Counties were created in 1876 and all on mainland New Zealand were abolished in 1989, when several former cities were merged with adjacent counties under the name of "... District" or "... City". The region name was later changed to match the district name.
