Hunter (which corresponds with the Open Directory Project's "Hunter Valley" region) is one of a dozen regions into which people commonly divide New South Wales, a former British colony that is now the most populous state of Australia.

Location and geography[]

Immediately north of Greater Sydney, New South Wales. Lake Macquarie is at the south-east corner, and the Hunter River dominates the interior.
