- Isabella was born in Ireland about 1722, the second child of John Houston (c1690-1754). She first married a George (or John) Henderson, by whom she had three children. After he died she married William Gillespy by whom she had seven children. After her death William remarried to Ann Finley.
Houston, 1882:20 tells us that the first three surviving children of John Houston (c1690-1754) married in Pennsylvania. By his accounting Isabella is John Houston's second surviving child, and therefore presumably married in Pennsylvania. Her sister Esther Houston (1722-?) was the third surviving child, and therefore also presumably married in Pennsylvania. She and her husband, John Montgomery, moved to Borden's Grant with her parents. He is readily identified in the Augusta County records, and owned property immeidately adjacent to John Houston, on the northern edge of Borden's grant, a short distance from the Great Road.
It is likely that Isabella and her husband John or George Henderson came to the Grant as well, but I have not pursued information about him. A George Henderson did aquire a 320 acre parcel astride the Great Road about two miles from where John Houston settled. It seems highly likely that this George Henderson was the husband of Isabella Houston.
