Изяслав Ярославич (князь шумский)
was born circa 1155 to Yaroslav II Izyaslavich of Kiev (c1127-c1180) and Daughter of Bohemia (c1140-c1187) and died 1196 of unspecified causes.

Izyaslav Yaroslavich (c1160-February 1196) - Prince of Volhynia, and Shumsk[1], son of Yaroslav II Izyaslavich of Kiev , the great-grandson of Mstislav the Great.

Biography

According to the Polish historian D. Dombrowski, Izyaslav was the youngest of four sons of the Prince of Lutsk Yaroslav Izyaslavich. This assumption is based on the fact that in the chronicles call Izyaslav "Menshii [Yaroslavovich]", but there are other opinions about his seniority. Y. Forssman[2] and D. Schwennicke[3] put Izyaslav in second place in seniority, L. Voytovich [1]- on the third. The exact year of Izyaslav's birth is unknown, Dombrovsky suggests that he could have been born between 1174 and the beginning of 1177. It is not known whether Izyaslav had a baptismal name[4].

In the chronicles Izyaslav is mentioned once. The Kiev chronicle in the article under the year 6703 indicates that " The same winter, the prestige of the knight Izislav, the growth of the short month of February, and put it into the hands of Feodor near the coffin "[5]. This prince is identified a the son of Yaroslav Izyaslavich. In historiography, there are two possible years of Izyaslav's death. L. Voitovich, after M. Grushevsky, points out that Izyaslav died in February 1195 [1]. However, in Russian historiography N. G. Berezhkov's opinion prevails, who reasonably suggested that it was about February 1196[6]. V.N. Tatishchev in the second part of the "History of the Russian" cited the date of February 10 [7], but modern researchers have repeatedly expressed doubts about the reliability of such information[4].

The chronicles do not mention how Izyaslav ruled. His father died in 1180, after which Izyaslav received part of his possessions[8]. L. Voitovich suggested that Izyaslav could have ruled the Principality of Shumsk a territory in Volhynia with its center in Shumsk[1].

Izyaslav was buried in the family burial vault of Mstislavichy - the Kiev church of St. Theodore [4].

Chronicles do not mention whether Izyaslav was married and whether he had children. [4].
