Obituary
Death has claimed yet another of Camden's oldest residents, Mr. James Boardman, whose family name in the history of this district goes back to 1838 [sic: actually 1840], when his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Boardman, arrived from England and the same year rented a farm next to Ferguson's Nursery, at Camden.
Seventy-seven years ago Mr. James Boardman was born on that farm in a homestead which stood on the site now occupied by the Boys' Home building.
He spent his school days at Camden under the late Mr Reeve, and secured his first job with Mr. Wignell at Elderslie. He later worked for his brother John, at " Daisy Vale," Picton and for the Dunn brothers—John and Charlie—at The Oaks .
In 1896 Mr Boardman went to Molong, where he was engaged in wheat and sheep farming until 1908, when he returned and purchased a farm at Cawdor. It is over ten years since he retired from active work.
Mr Boardman passed away at his late home, Alpha Road, Camden, on Wednesday evening of last week, and the district was well represented at the funeral at Cawdor Methodist cemetery on Thursday.
Services at the church and the graveside were conducted by Rev. S. R. Robbins, assisted by Mr. W. Strong.
Members of the Sons of Temperance Lodge carried their late brother to his last resting place.
Mrs Boardman and seven children survive. The children are: Mrs. N. New (of Camden) ; Miss Jane Boardman (of Beechworth, Victoria); Mrs. J. Burrell (of Menangle); Mrs Simmons and Mrs J. Long (of Wellington, N.S.W.) ; and Mr. Frederic Boardman (of Camden) and Miss Ethel Boardman (of Menangle).
