James FitzMaurice FitzGerald, 12th Earl of Desmond, was born circa 1513 to Maurice FitzGerald (c1488-c1529) and died 19 March 1540 Leacan Sgail of assassination. He married Daughter MacCarthy .
James' grand-uncle was the de facto earl from until his death in 1536.
