Obituary

Mr. J. J. Gossage

THE sudden death of Mr. James John Gossage, of Medley Street, Gulgong, came as a shock to his many friends throughout the district. He was 50 years of age and was a native of Moolarben (Mudgee district). He lived the greater part of his life in Gulgong district, where he was very well known. A fine chap was Jim Gossage. Conscientious and of a quiet and unassuming nature, he combined thoroughness and efficiency in carrying out any work he undertook. Only last week he completed the erection of a fence between the Town Hall and Court House yards, and this will stand, with other work, as a monument to his thoroughness. The evening before his death he was with his mother until 7 o'clock carrying out odd jobs for her; as had been his practice owing to her ill health. His sudden death next morning was a great shock to his mother, his wife and relatives. The funeral took place to the Church of England portion of the Gulgong Cemetery, Rev. R. Douglas officiating. Members of the local branch of the Manchester Unity Lodge were included in the cortege. His widow and son (Ronald) survive. Also, three brothers, Messrs. W. R. Gossage and Harold Gossage (Gulgong), and Carl Gossage (Granville), and two sisters, Mesdames C. Byers (Gulgong) and Joseph Murphy (Blacktown). Our sympathy is extended to the bereaved.
