James Kershaw that married Mary Ann MARCH was the son of Solomon KERSHAW & Ann WHITLEY and was born in Manchester, Lancashire England in abt 1834. He arrived in Australia 11 Mar 1841 with his parents and sister Mary aged 8 - he was 6 years old.

For some reason Anne Butterworth appears on Solomon's death certificate and I cannot explain why - however the above Bounty Index proves to me that James was not born in 1818 as suggested and he was not the son of Anne Butterworth. His death certificate incorrectly has him aged 106 in 1925.
Their immigration record confirms this too The family departed Liverpool on 14 September 1840. Solomon was brought out by a A B Smith Esq (Not certain as hard to read from records). Solomon was a native of Oldham, Lancashire, the son of John Kershaw (engineer) and Anne Turner. Solomon was a farm labourer, aged 27, a Wesleyan Methodist, illiterate and in good health. His wife Ann was also of Oldham and the daughter of James Whitely, a collier (deceased) and Elizabeth Kershaw. Ann was 27 years old, with very good health, also a Wesleyan Methodist and she could read and write. Children James and Mary.
