James Reid was born 1816 in Knockadoo, County Derry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom and died 20 January 1876 Chatswood, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes.
James Reid, 22, and his pregnant wife embarked upon the Lord Western, which sailed on 24 June 1840 from London via Portsmouth for the Colony of New South Wales. Mary was in an advanced state of her pregnancy. Their first child was born, a daughter whom they named Sarah Ann, on 11 August 1840 as their ship was rounding the Cape of Good Hope. They arrived in Port Jackson (Sydney) on 3 October 1840.
