James Rue was born 16 July 1804 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom to James Rae (bef1804-) and Cathrine McKenzie (bef1804-) and died 12 October 1881 Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Mary Ann May Erskine (c1815-1885) 1834 in Molong, New South Wales, Australia.
He arrived in Sydney on 15 July 1822 on the Guildford as a convict.
