James Semore Swinney was born circa 1750 in Virginia, United States of America to Moses Swinney (c1713-1785) and Ann Semore (c1729-aft1785) and died 28 August 1836 Monroe County, West Virginia, United States of America of unspecified causes. He married Susannah Chiles Hammock (1760-1855) 1773 in Virginia, United States.
"The Last Will and Testament of James SWINNEY, dated 26 Apr. 1825, was presented at the September Court 1836, naming James and Vincent Swinney as Executors. He bequeathed his land to his wife during her lifetime, being the "land whereon I now live and one other small tract of about ten or twelve acres in an Island of New River opposite the house where I now live", and upon her death the land was to pass to his son, Vincent. He also named his children as follows: "Mary, Ann, Rachel, Delilah, Elizabeth, Suana, Delana, William, James, Martin and Vincen" and bequeathed each of them one dollar. His Will is signed with his mark and is witnessed by Matt Farley, Esther Farley, Joseph Farley, John Woodram, James Gore and Lewis Hutchison."
Transcribed by Ric Blake: "At Monroe September Court, 1836: This last will and testament of James Swinney deceased was presented in court and proven by the oaths of John Woodram and James Gore subscribing witnesses thereto and the same is ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Vincent Swinney one of the Executors therin named who made oath as such and together with Delaney Swinney, John Woodram and William Adair his securities entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of $1000 - Conditioned as the last directs certificated for obtaining probate thereof in due form is granted him."
