James Stickler was born circa 1793 in Pucklechurch, Bristol (Pucklechurch+ Bristol+ England) to Thomas Stickler (c1760-1838) and Jane Mealing (1766-1829) and died 13 December 1855 Pucklechurch, Bristol (Pucklechurch+ Bristol+ England) of unspecified causes. He married Sarah Angell (1797-1863) 30 July 1815 in Tormarton, Gloucestershire.
James Stickler was the first son of Thomas and Jane Mealing Stickler. He was born in Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire (now Bristol) in 1793 and baptized 28 July 1793 at the St.Thomas à Becket Church, Pucklechurch.
He married Sarah Angell from Tormanton, Gloucestershire when he was twenty two. His marriage record shows he was literate and able to write. James and Sarah lived in Pucklechurch at Feltham Lane (now Feltham Road) where they raised their thirteen children. James worked as a cordwainer (shoemaker) and was assisted by his oldest son, Thomas Angel Stickler, also a cordwainer, and his daughter Jane Mealing Stickler who worked as a shoe binder.
James died at the age of sixty two and was buried in Pucklechurch on 16 December 1855. Following James' death in 1855 Sarah became the head-of-household for the six surviving unmarried children. She died in Pucklechurch on 26 April 1863 at the age sixty five, whereupon the children now grown found separate housings; James Stickler and Enoch Stickler shared a dwelling; Ann Stickler married and lived elsewhere, and Ruth Stickler (born about 1840) sadly fell into debt and died in the Pucklechurch Union Workhouse (poorhouse) aged twenty five.
Sarah Angell, who gave birth to thirteen children over a period of 29 years, was born about 1797 in Tormarton, Gloucestershire. She married James Stickler of Pucklechurch by banns on 13 July 1815 in Tormarton, Gloucestershire. Sarah was illiterate and signed her marriage record with the mark 'X'.
