Biography
His middle name is often given as William, but according to a family history, he was named James Williams Angell in honor of the Protestant theologian Roger Williams (c1595). James and his wife, Phebe Morton Angell were married about 1802 in New York. They had 10 children, several of whom joined the Mormon Church in the 1830s and went on to play prominent roles in early church history.
James and Phebe eventually separated. She moved to Utah with several of her grown children, and died there in 1854. James lived for a time in Lake County, Ohio, but moved to Dodge County, Wisconsin about 1844 with his daughter Phebe Ann Johnson and her family. He died in Leroy, Dodge, Wisconsin in 1851.
