Jesse Doty was born 9 October 1784 in New Jersey to Samuel Doty (1765-1829) and Mary Brown (1761-1844) and died 17 August 1849 Ohio, USA of unspecified causes. He married Jane Unknown (c1793-?) .
Robert Craig in Butler County, Ohio, Marriages 1803-1823 shows that Jesse Doty married Nancy Gregory on August 1, 1816. If this is the Jesse Doty who is the subject of this article, Nancy Gregory was probably not his first wife, as his son Samuel was born in 1809 or 1810 in Pennsylvania, as shown by the 1850 census of Oxford Township, Butler County, Ohio. Apparently she was not his last wife, as the Butler County probate record for Jesse Doty shows that in September, 1849, Jane Doty relinquished her right to administer the estate of her late husband Jesse. She requested that her sons Samuel and John be appointed in her place. The 1850 census of Oxford Township, Butler County, Ohio, shows 56-year-old Jane Doty, who was born in Delaware, living alone. It is possible that the Jesse Doty who married Nancy Gregory in 1816 was not the Jesse Doty who is the son of Samuel Doty (1765-1829), or it is possible that Jesse Doty had three wives. Pending further information, this record shows a single wife named Jane.
