Joan Eagle was born 19 December 1941 in New Zealand to George Allan Eagle (1915-2005) and Matilda Elizabeth (Ev) Taylor (1920-2005) and died 29 April 2011 Manawatu-Wanganui Region, New Zealand of unspecified causes. She married Gerrit Arend (Gerry) Renting (1939-2018) 21 December 1963 in Wellington, Wellington Region, New Zealand.

Joan came from several generations of residents of the Wellington Region. She married one of the numerous hard-working Dutch immigrants who flocked to New Zealand in the decades after World War II.
Joan and Gerry
Gerry and Joan met in Wellington's Sorrento Coffee Bar in 1962. They were married in 1963, a little earlier than they might have, so that Joan's ailing grandfather could attend the wedding.
Homes in Wellington Region
Their first home was in Brougham Street near Wellington city centre. Next, for about 7 years, was a house they built at Kopara Grove in Stokes Valley, the north-eastern suburb of Lower Hutt. Then for a short time further north in Upper Hutt.
Tangimoana
In about 1982, while their children were still living with them, they moved to Tangimoana, at the mouth of the Rangitikei River in the Manawatu District, owning and running a store and restaurant. Gerry said running such a business can be very hard work but less hard if you're smart. They were fortunate in having Joan's parents living in the same township for some years.
Bridget married and moved to Karori, in Wellington, and Arend obtained work in various parts of Wellington or Manawatu-Wanganui.
Levin
Their retirement home, from about 1996, was in the north-east corner of Levin, chief town of the Horowhenua District further south. They took great delight in getting to know Bridget's daughters and Arend's first child. Christmas gatherings saw the modest-sized house fairly full of happy people. When Joan was in her final illness, she was shown a photo of the newborn grandson.
