¶ Death
  • Death of an Old Resident. An old and respected resident of the district, Mr. John Alderton, senr., died at the advanced age of 87 years, at his residence, Gosper's Groves, on Friday afternoon last. He leaves a widow and large grown-up family. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at the Wesleyan burial ground, McGrath's Hill, the service being conducted by the Rev. B. Dinning. The Salvation Captain, along with other members of the Army, sang a hymn, "Rock of Ages," at the grave. Although not a member of the Army, Mr. Alderton was always in sympathy with their work, and was a true Christian man. A memorial service was held at the Army Barracks on Sunday night, in memory of deceased. Messrs T. Primrose and Son carried out the funeral arrangements.
