John Barney is the son of the Rev. Jacob Barney, after marrying Mary Throop, they resided at Bristol, Swansea and Taunton MA.

John Barney and Mary Throop are mentioned in her father's will dated 1704. It is believed he died in 1728 and she remarried in 1736 to John Andrews.
