John Baysey, baptized 16 August 1612 in Dedham, Essex, England, was a weaver, although when and to where in the American colonies he emigrated is unknown.
Hartford Founders Monument

The original brownstone monument erected in 1837 was replaced by this one in 1986, by the Society of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford. It stands in the Ancient Burying Ground, which is located to the rear of the First Congregational Church at the corner of Main and Gold Streets in Hartford. This cemetery is also known as Old Center Cemetery. It lists the original Founders of Hartford.
He was an original proprietor of Hartford and according the land inventory of February 1639/40 he originally held: two acres on which his dwelling house stood with other outhouses, yards, and gardens, located on the south side of the road from the Mill to the South Meadow; four acres of upland on the road from George Steele’s to the Great Swamp; another three acres and two roods on the same road; one acre on the east side of the Great River; and another four acres on the east side of the Great River. He later acquired an additional seven parcels of land.
He was chosen chimney viewer in 1649, surveyor of highways 1652, constable 1656, fence viewer 1667, and selectman in 1669. His will was dated 14 August 1671, the inventory of his estate was taken 29 August 1671, and his will was proven 7 September 1671.
