John Bishop Putnam was born 17 July 1847 in Stapleton, Richmond County, New York, United States to George Palmer Putnam (1814-1872) and Victorine Haven (1824-1891) and died 7 October 1915 Rye, Westchester County, New York, United States of unspecified causes. He married Emma Frances Faulkner (1857-1936) 18 April 1882 in Manhattan, New York County, New York, United States.
He was treasurer and a director of the book publishing firm G. P. Putnam's Sons, founded by his father.
