John Doty removed c1718 to Hempstead, New York, and before 1766 he moved to Somerset County, New Jersey.
The Mayflower Society genealogy does not recognize John Doty as a son of Samuel Doty (c1643-1715). They point out that although Ethan Allen Doty includes John Doty in his The Doty-Doten Family in America, he does not give any reason for connecting him to the rest of the family. On the contrary, he cites the memoir of one of John Doty's descendants, who recounts a family tradition that John Doty immigrated to America from England.
