Obituary

Mr. John Carpenter.

Yass lost an old resident last week through the death of Mr. John Carpenter, who died at Goulburn on Tuesday last. He was born at Jersey in 1841, being consequently 83 years of age. In early life he came to Australia and followed up the various gold diggings.
Afterwards he settled in Yass. That was over 60 years ago. Rossi street was then the town's chief thoroughfare, the post office and two of three hotels being located there. Mr. Carpenter saw many subsequent changes.
He left about 10 years ago to reside with his daughter at Goulburn, but paid periodical visits to Yass. He leaves a family of one daughter, Mrs. Dean, of Goulburn, and four sons, viz., George (Sydney), Alf, Jack and Walter, Yass. The remains of deceased were brought to Yass for interment, and were buried next the grave of his wife who died about 15 years ago.
Tbe burial service was read by the Rev. R. Upjohn (Binalong). Mr. Craig carried out this funeral arrangements at Goulburn and Mr. McIntosh at Yass. The late Mr. Carpenter was one of the founders of the Yass branch of the M.U.O.O.F. . Some members of the lodge attended the funeral.
