John Campbell, 5th Earl Cawdor of Castlemartin was born 17 May 1900 to Hugh Frederick Vaughan Campbell, 4th Earl Cawdor (1870-1914) and Joan Emily Mary Thynne (1872-1945) and died 9 January 1970 of unspecified causes. He married Wilma Mairi Vickers (-1982) 15 May 1929 in Aldenham Church, Aldenham, Hertfordshire, England, United Kingdom.
John Duncan Vaughan Campbell TD, 5th Earl Cawdor (17 May 1900 – 1970), styled Viscount Emlyn between 1911 and 1914, was a Scottish peer.

The earl fought in the First World War with the Royal Navy and was decorated with the award of the Territorial Decoration. He fought in the Second World War and was mentioned in despatches and was Lieutenant-Colonel. He was invested as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and the Society of Antiquaries.
Lord Cawdor married, firstly, Wilma Mairi Vickers, daughter of Vincent C. Vickers, on 15 May 1929. They had three children:
