Vietnam War[]
He served in the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart for an injury received while under fire. He was honorably discharged. John writes in 2020: "I was a combat soldier in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and released on March 13 as a Sergeant E5 and was at Woodstock in August of 1969."
Chico, California[]
After the war, John and his brother moved to Chico, California and lived in an intentional community. He was in a band called Supa Nova.
