John Fane, 9th Earl of Westmorland, was born 5 May 1728 to Thomas Fane, 8th Earl of Westmorland (c1701-1771) and Elizabeth Swymmer (1708-1782) and died 25 April 1774 of unspecified causes. He married Augusta Bertie (-1766) 26 March 1758 . He married Susan Gordon (1746-1814) 28 May 1767 .
