According to 1850 Census record of James Allred Household, John F L Allred was a rope maker by trade the year that he died.

John Franklin Lafayette Allred was born in Farmington, Bedford, Tennesee on June 26, 1827. His parents were James Allred and Elizabeth Warren, two early converts to the Mormon faith who participated in many important historical and ecclesiastical events and remained faithful to the Church throughout their lives.John married Marinda Melvina Knapp on June 11, 1847 at Castle Point, Pottawattamie, Iowa.

Their first child, a son named Silas Lafayette (Marinda’s father was named Silas), was born a year later on 31 Aug 1848 in Council Point, Pottawattmie, Iowa. John was 21 at the time. The next child, a little girl named Vadelia, was born on January 9, 1850 in the same location. Sadly, she died a short three months later on March 5. Four months after this, John succumbed to cholera, passing away on July 17, 1850 at the age of 23.

His grieving widow, Marinda, gave birth to their third child, a boy named John Franklin, on January 1, 1851. She was just 21. Several months later she joined the Mormon immigrants traveling west to Utah. Along the way she married her second husband, Lewis Orin Glazier (1829-1882). The marriage took place on August 18, 1851 in Larimie, Albany, Nebraska. Their children, who were all born in Utah, included Alpheus O., Rozilla M., Leonora Roziltha, Clarissa Lydia (Marinda’s mother was named Lydia), and Charles William. There may have been at least one other child who died young.
