John Ingram Hallows was born 24 July 1839 in Newtwon, Montgomerysjire, Wales to Mary Ann Ingram (1814-1895) and died circa June 1906 Prescot, Lanscashire, England of unspecified causes.
John arrived in Melbourne, Victoria on 17 Oct 1857 on the "Florence Nightingale" at the stated age of 16.
His mother and step-father arrived in Melbourne, Victoria on 2 Jun 1858 on the "Winefred".
Before 1881 he was back in England living with his mother who had returned to England before 1871. He took his two eldest children back to England with him, and his youngest son was left to be raised by his wife in Victoria.

John, who was nearly 2 years old at the ntime of the 1841 census, is not recorded as at home in Newtown with his mother and her family. This does not mean, however, that he was not there. He is shown as John Hallows, age 11, born Newtown Montgomeryshire, with his mother and step-father in the 1851 census at Tranmere, Cheshire. John, his mother, and his step-father, had immigrated to Victoria, Australia, before the 1861 census. |
