Biography

John Moore was born between 1602 and 1609, probably in Henham, Essex, England. His parents are not known. About 1625, probably in the area of Henham, John married a woman named Elizabeth, whose last name is unknown.

Notable descendants of John MOORE include President John Calvin Jr. COOLIDGE (1872-1933) [served as POTUS 1923-29] who is three times John's 7th great-grandson via his daughter Elizabeth three times.

About 1642 he emigrated to America with his 2nd wife and his several children.

John was a farmer, he called himself "Yeoman" in his will, written on August 25, 1668. In that will, he named his "loving and tender wife" Elizabeth, to be executrix. He also mentions son John, of Lancaster, sons William, Jacob and Benjamin, as well as son Joseph, to whom he leaves his dwelling. He mentions daughters Elizabeth, wife of Henry Rice; Mary, wife of Daniel Stone and Lydia, wife of James Cutler. John had amassed quite a bit of land and the family was obviously prosperous. When John died in 1674, his estate was valued at over 800 Pounds, a large amount for that time. The place of his burial is unknown.
