John Murray, 3rd Duke of Atholl, was born 6 May 1729 to George Murray (1694-1760) and Amelia Murray (c1710-1766) and died 5 November 1774 Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom of drowning in the River Tay. He married Charlotte Murray, 8th Baroness Strange (1731-1805) 23 October 1753 in Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.
