John reached Salem in the 1630s.

He was a carpenter by trade and was responsible for enlarging the meeting house as well as building the first bridge in Salem.

He built in 1651 the Pickering House on Broad Street in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts, North AmericaIt is the oldest continuously occupied house by the same family in America.

He wrote his will in Jul 1655 and it was probated on 1 Jul 1657.
