John Sprague was born 5 April 1638 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to William Sprague (1609-1675) and Millicent Eames (1615-1696) and died 26 October 1683 Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts of unspecified causes. He married Elizabeth Holbrook (1624-1699) 13 December 1666 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.
John Sprague joined his father-in-law (William Holbrook) and brother in settling Mendon, Massachusetts. In 1675, the town was attacked by Indians and he escaped with his life, joining a crowd of refugees that went to Boston and Charlestown. (NEHGR 129:351)
