Biography
Joseph Adair, Jr. was born 12 April 1735 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States to Joseph Adair (1711-1788) and Sarah Laferty (1715-1767) and died 17 October 1812 Laurens County, South Carolina, United States of unspecified causes. He married Sarah Dillard (1736-) 1755 in Duncan Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Laurens County, South Carolina.
He was a soldier in the American Revolution, a private with Col. Lacy in South Carolina at Hauk's defeat. Later he was a Lieutenant & Deputy Commissioner. He moved from Pennsylvania to South Carolina about 1750. Joseph's will of January 15, 1813 named son John & wife Jane Jones, son James & wife Elenor, son Robert, son E. Joseph Adair, Jr., died October 17, 1812, age 79 years, and was buried in Duncans Creek graveyard.

South Carolina 1790 US Federal Census has two entries for Joseph Adair. Both entries show on page 13 of the Laurens County Census. This family is pretty close match for the first entry at the top of the page [1-3-3-0-0] (Assuming that the several older children had married and moved out.)
