Joseph Ainsworth was born 1808 in Romford, Essex, England, United Kingdom to John Ainsworth (1778-1846) and Mary Ann Charlotta Butcher (1781-bef1861) and died 18 November 1885 Raglan, New South Wales, Australia of unspecified causes. He married Martha Blackman (1813-1901) 29 December 1843 in St Stephens, Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia.
He arrived in New South Wales in 1833 on the Mermaid as a convict.
