Research Notes
Date of death from Vermont historian and family member Frederic Palmer Wells in the genealogy section, page 730, of his informative book "History of Newbury, Vt., 1704 - 1902., from the discovery of Coos Country to the present time." 779 pages. A bit more on Frederic under his name.
I have all pages for the Census of 1776 in Southold and of 488 households 30 were surnamed Wells, all descendants of William of Southold, and many more families had the daughters of Wells' as wives.
While for a long time there was uncertainty over which side of the Revolution we were on there is now no doubt. Unfortunately the able Vermont Historian and family member, Frederic Palmer Wells, lived his life believing we were Tories and so gave his own family short shrift in his own work we have since learned our proud heritage of supporting and engaging in the American Revolution on the winning side.
