Gov Josiah Bartlett was born 21 November 1729 in Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, United States to Stephen Bartlett (1691-1773) and Hannah Mary Webster (1692-1768) and died 19 May 1795 Kingston, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States of unspecified causes. He married Mary Bartlett (1730-1789) 15 January 1754 in Kingston, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

Gov. Josiah Bartlett was an American physician and statesman, delegate to the Continental Congress for New Hampshire, and signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He was later Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court of Judicature and Governor of the state.
