Prvt. Josiah Bradlee I was born 24 March 1754 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States to Samuel Bradlee (1707-1768) and Mary Andrus (1700-1796) and died 2 October 1798 Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States of unspecified causes. He married Hannah Putnam (1758-1793) 7 August 1777 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States.
He was a private in the American Revolutionary War. One day he was called on by a man who ended up becoming a fifth great-uncle of mine and war hero, Major General Israel Putnam. One of the general’s nieces, Hannah Putnam, went to see her uncle at the Battle of Bunker Hill, which in today’s world When the time came for her to leave, the general called on Pvt. Josiah Bradlee to escort her back to her home, which he had to go through enemy lines.
He was also a member of the Sons of Liberty along with his brother, Capt. David. Josiah was married by Rev. Dr. Stillman on 7 Aug 1777 in Boston to Hannah Putnam. She was born in 1758 in Boston to Joseph Putnam (1714-1788) and Sarah Urann (1716-1765) and died on 4 May 1793 in Boston. Hannah’s father Joseph, who was a chair maker by trade was born in Salem Village, Essex County, Massachusetts into the Salem Putnam family who were heavily involved in the Salem Witch Trials. Joseph’s parents were first cousins, Capt. Bartholomew Putnam (1688-1723) who died at sea and Mary Putnam. Joseph Putnam was a two time descendant of John Putnam, the immigrant and his wife Priscilla Gould.
