Kevin Borland was born 20 January 1975 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States to Steven Thomas Borland (1950-2010) and Kathleen Szczesny (1949-) . He married Phitsanu Ruasamran (1974-) 3 January 2001 in Ban Dongphayom, Bang Krathum District, Phitsanulok Province, Thailand.
Kevin moved from Jersey City to Lake Hiawatha, Morris County, New Jersey before he was one year old. He resided with his parents in Lake Hiawatha until the family moved to Scenic Lakes, Sussex County, New Jersey when he was three. He lived in Scenic Lakes until he attended college.
Education and Employment
Kevin attended Hardyston Townhip Elementary School in Hardyston Township, Sussex County, New Jersey, and then Wallkill Valley Regional High School, also in Sussex County, New Jersey. He then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from where he obtained a B.S. in Physics in 1997. His thesis was on the properties of a deuteron, and required modeling a complex physical system in the Fortran programming language. After graduation, Kevin worked for two years at Warner-Lambert, Inc. as an analyst. Missing academia, he then decided to return to school and study law at Rutgers University. He received his JD in 2002, and then moved to Arlington, Virginia. Kevin first worked as a contractor at Raytheon International, Inc. in the international business development department for a short time, and started a book business before he began practicing law. For ten years, Kevin ran a solo general practice law office in Arlington.
Throughout the years, Kevin also took classes as a non-matriculating student at Boston University (including Eastern Religeons), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (including Spanish History), Golden Gate University (including Thai Comparative Law) and the University of Nairobi (including International Constitutional Law).
In addition to practicing law, Kevin has also managed a Thai restaurant, was the lead guitarist for the punk band Weekends With Dan, released two independent solo albums, and is the scientist who developed the Borland Genetics DNA software toolkit.

In the past, Kevin volunteered his services to the Clarendon Education Center's REEF program assisting adult students with English as a Second Language.
Kevin is a former member of the board of directors of MIT's Washington, DC Alumnae Association.
Kevin is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia (active) and Virginia (inactive). He is also a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity.
